Pilates & Personal Training

We all want to be fit, toned, strong and full of energy; to live life to the fullest and be physically able as we grow older, to play with our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, to be able to walk to the shops, bend down to pick up a box, reach overhead to change a lightbulb.

But just as the battery on a car runs down if it isn’t driven often enough, your body does too. Humans are designed to move. If we don’t want our bodies to seize up, we need to keep them moving.

You may do a physically inactive job and spend your downtime sitting or lying down. The result can be back, knee, hip pain… this list goes on.

You may also have old injuries that are causing more problems as you get older, or you could have weaknesses that make themselves known at the slightest provocation.

Everything you do during your day - your work, favourite sport, holding a baby on one hip…may be the cause of a structural imbalance leading to repetitive strain injuries, decreased mobility or pain.

Pilates and personal training give strength, flexibility, coordination, speed, agility and endurance.  Rather than working just the major muscle groups, smaller muscles are engaged to support our full range of motion and prevent risk of injury.

“Pilates is a system of physical and mental conditioning that can enhance your physical strength, flexibility, and coordination as well as reduce stress, improve mental focus and foster and improved sense of well-being.  Pilates can be for anyone and everyone”

Rael Isakowitz (founder of BASI Pilates)

Despite not being naturally coordinated, I have been physically active all my life and tried many forms of exercise over the years.  Of all the types of exercise I’ve tried, Pilates, more than any other, has helped keep me as active as I was 20 years ago.

As an uncoordinated, active person, I’ve had several injuries over the years.  A period without Pilates can see me laid up on the sofa, in pain and very grumpy.  I see Pilates as one of the main contributors to my future mobility and health passport, and we all want as many stamps in our passport as possible.

Because I am not a stereotypical, super bendy, coordinated fitness professional, I’m very patient with clients. I want to make you feel as comfortable and safe as I can.  The studio is very calm and private, and I hope for you to walk out the door feeling better than when you walked in - a little bit stronger and more confident every time.

First, we’ll do a physical analysis and I’ll ask you a few questions to understand what your history is, where you are now and where you want to be.

Where:  Private studio equipped with a reformer, cadillac and wunda chair or outside (small equipment and body weight exercises)

What: A combination of exercises tailored to suit you.  This will include strengthening the whole body, including your core, as well as stretching to “undo all the doing”.

Depending on your goals, we can include cardiovascular work and anything else you may want to work on.  Most of my clients are surprised by how quickly they feel their bodies changing, including their posture and muscle tone.

Depending on your goals and lifestyle, I might give you exercises to do in between sessions with me or around any of your other sporting endeavours.

If you’d like to find out more about individual equipment pilates, please email or call, or book online.

Some clients like to supplement individual pilates classes with group reformer classes.  I teach at 2 lovely studios in Fulham and Wandsworth on Thursday and Sunday.  Please click here for more information.
