About Tanya

I set up life nourish to help people who are who are suffering with brain health issues such as anxiety, brain fog, sub optimal mental health etc help people find a sustainable way to regain control of their brain health through diet and lifestyle so they can lead a happier, productive, longer and more fulfilling life.

My life was turned upside down when after coming back to London, from Australia, to see my uncle before he couldn’t recognise me, I realised my mother was likely suffering from dementia as well.

A month later, once back in Australia, I received a call from my brother to let me know I had been correct and our mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimers. I immediately quit my job and moved back to London to be with my mother for her last years.

Having experienced high stress corporate life in London and more recently a more balanced and healthy approach to life in Australia I decided to change careers and combine my lifelong interest in health, fitness and food. Whilst watching my mother deteriorate I became a personal trainer, studied pilates and embarked on a four year nutrtional therapy course.

I started to realise many of my friends were experiencing the tragedy of watching someone they love loose themselves to dementia.

My research backed this up with the suggestion that one in three people born in the U.K. this year will develop dementia and 52% of the population know someone with a diagnosis of dementia. Apart from dementia, most of my friends had experienced mental health issues at some point.

A survey carried out by the government on the mental health of 7,500 adults over the age of 16 found that one in six adults had a common mental health disorder.

What was reassuring however, was that over the four years of studying I realised more and more the effects of diet and other lifestyle factors on brain health; not just extreme cases of poor health such as dementia but mental health and low lying bran fog, inability to concentrate, poor energy etc which can be early signs of dementia.

This meant our brain health was more in our control than I had initially thought. Genetics can play a part but they rarely predetermine the outcome.

Watching my mother and my uncle suffer from dementia was devastating and the idea that it could happen to me or anyone else I cared about terrified me. I was too late to be able to help my mother but I wasn’t too late to help others regain control of their health and live happier, longer and more fulfilling lives.

The basic tenets of my approach are simple: eating well, gut health, sleeping well, exercising, and reducing stress.

These practices can be equally effective for improving low mood, anxiety, lack of energy, brain fog, mood swings and problems with motivation.
